Web-based technology now allows pre- and post-tests to be administered
over the Internet. So far, results have demonstrated no appreciable differences
in scores between paper-based and web-based administration.
Paper Administration
Pros:
- Can prevent cheating
- Necessary materials and time provided to student not dependent
on completing as homework
Cons:
- Consumes valuable instruction time during class or lab.
- Resources to prepare, collect, score and analyze data can be expensive
Web-Based Administration
Pros:
- Save class time
- Eliminates errors of data input
- Allows collection of new kinds of data such as the length of time
required for responses.
- Since data is already in a digital format, it can easily be used
for multiple purposes
Cons:
- Nearly impossible to verify the identity of the person completing
an instrument
- Easy for test takers to cheat.
- Student web browsers may not support web-test format
- All students may not have easy access to a computer or the Internet
