Soldering Techniques

While working on our research we had to do a lot of soldering. So we found a few sites that can help those who are learning how to solder, or just want some tips.

1.  http://www.elexp.com/t_solder.htm

This site gives a very specific and professional explanation on good soldering, along with how to care for your soldering equipment. The webpage consists of
visuals to give an idea of what a well-soldered joint or wire looks like. Good explanations of why each specification is important are also provided. The weaknesses of
this site, however, are that the explanations are very scientific, and may not benefit the average beginner, and that there is an unusual emphasis on the care of the tip.

2.  http://www.mediacollege.com/misc/solder/

This site is rather similar in content to the previous site, but may provide a beginner with a better understanding of tools and techniques of soldering. Actual
pictures of the different soldering tools and preparations are incorporated with the text. This site also uses a more common syntax that would guide a beginner more
effectively than the previous site.

3.  http://www.montek.com/tutorials/soldering.html

This site gives sort of a “soldering-for-dummies” take on how to solder. Although the page is titled “Soldering Techniques,” a more fitting title would probably
be “Soldering Tips.” The author gives some useful tips on what to do, and what not to do, when soldering, but would probably only be useful to those receiving
instruction on how to solder, not those seeking instruction.

4.  http://www.epemag.wimborne.co.uk/solderfaq.htm

This site provides an in-depth description of the soldering tools, their properties, and soldering techniques. Step-by-step instructions on what to do when
soldering, and all possible considerations to take into account when soldering, are provided. There is also a photo gallery of soldering and de-soldering methods, and
also what one should look for in a good soldering joint, as opposed to a bad one. As the title of the site implies, this site contains the basics of soldering that all beginners
in electronics soldering should know.
