Hub Making

A jig was made from a block of wood to hold the hubs in place while the blade mounting holes were drilled. A 1/4" drill bit was used in the drill press. You will notice the reference lines that are marked onto the face of the jig block. The layout for the holes was to have them spaced at degree marks of 0, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, 270, and 300. This allowed the students to choose between two, three, four, or six blades in their projects. The reference mark on the hub was aligned with degree marks for 0, 60, 90, and 120. At each mark a hole was drilled all the way through the block. This allowed the creation of eight blade mounting holes with only four cuts. Another hole in the back of the jig block allowed alignment of a 1/8" drill bit with the center of the hub to make the motor shaft mounting hole.
